From IMDB:
"The original ending to this film depicted Duckie getting the girl, however the test audiences said they would have preferred to see Blane win Andie's heart. Additionally, Molly Ringwald was
sick during the filming of the ending, and John Hughes wasn't satisfied with the editing. He was also concerned that audiences would take the original ending as a message that poor people and
rich people don't belong together."
I don't know what these test audiences were smoking at the time. She should have picked him. He's her soul-mate...
Pfft, I never watch the "ending". The real ending to that movie is when Duckie escorts her in and Blaine gets that misty look in his eye (mostly because he's being blinded by the very scary
pink dress she's wearing).
I'm glad to see so many Blaine fans out there. This is the first chance I have to read the whole thread. On the poll someone did a few days ago the vote was 6 Duckie to 6 Blaine, last I looked.
since many people on here know pretty in pink is my favorite 80's movie i have this to say.....duckie is the MAN, he should have gotten Andie in the end (the test audience are idiots), and
thrift store pink was all the rage back in the day. at least Andie didn't wear a regular 80's Prom dress. Now those were SO hideous.
I'm a Duckie fan, mostly since I was the girl version of Duckie for most of high school.
Also, John Hughes was concerned that people would think that rich people and poor people can't be together? What about people thinking that nerds can never get the girl? I take more offense to
that. After all, if Blandie hadn't worked out, it would have been because SHE turned HIM down at the end.

Yeah, but Duckie got with Kristy Swanson in the end, and that seemed to pick him back up!

I find the movie to be quite perfect.
Hazel, that dress was pretty ugly, at least to me, too!
hazel_eyes_smile, I never knew that stuff about the test audience. But, I love the movie exactly how it was...I wanted her to be with Blaine.
I agree, Beach, I think Andie and Blane were good together.
Hahahaha, that's awesome. I haven't seen PIP in such a long time, I need to try to Tivo or rent it.

Awwww, was I the ONLY one rooting for Duckie?
Then again, I'm marrying my Duckie, so maybe that's why I always had a soft spot for him?
I wanted Duckie to get her too! He's sooooo adorable and riding by her house on his bike all the time!!!! COME ON! That's soooooo cute!
Believe in Magic!
Thanks Autumn, I was wondering where if I was the only other Blaine fan here. I love Duckie but, he is more like a really cool friend.
